What is osmidrosis?

Osmidrosis is the smell of bacteria growing on the body.
Unpleasant body odor can be very embarrassing and even traumatic for some people.
Osmidrosis is caused by excessive secretion of apocrine, which causes and acrid odor.
Apocrine sweat glands develop during the early- to mid-puberty ages and release more than normal amounts of sweat, regulating and releasing normal amounts of sweat after a certain period of time.
Patients who have osmidrosis also have wet type of earwax, so it can be easily diagnosed.

Surgical method for osmidrosis

The procedure can be performed as an outpatient procedure with localized anesthesia, and it takes about an hour. With the ultrasonic aspirator, apcrine sweat glands are destroyed and aspirated. The scar is almost invisible, besides, veins and nerves around axilla can be preserved. Compare to existing excision method, the complications such as hematoma or sensory paralysis are rare, and patient can go home right after the surgery. Stitches will be removed a week after the surgery.

Hereditary of osmidrosis

Osmidrosis is reported to be prepotency hereditary. According to statistics, if one of the parents has osmidrosis, 50% of their children have it, and both of the parents have osmidrosis, 80% of their children have it. But 20% of osmidrosis patients don’t have any family history.
